I came to tumblr.
I saw a Shang/Iroh crossover.
“Why don’t you come and find out…”
Let me just sit here…and be sad.
#Lok #Legend of Korra #REMEMBER THIS YOU GUYS #REMEMBER HOW EXCITED WE WERE TO SEE MORE OF THHIIIISSSSSS?! #SO BITTER #that romance really killed it for me #and the nonbenderxbender plot #and just…SIGGGGH #WE ROOTED FOR YOU #GOING THROUGH THESE MAKES ME TEARBEND

ROLLING IN THE DEEP!!!
YOU HAD MY HEART INSIDE YOUR HAND AND YOU PLAYED IT TO THE BEAT!!!!!!!
This is like the only fight she ever really won on her own. Goodness.
And even just the bending in this fight was fucking amazing. She caught that water right off the bat and, without another though, shot it back as ICE. She used multiple types of bending and was damned good. And even when she didn’t use bending, she was kicking that guy like ten feet down the street from one kick.
Cue the finale where she’s suddenly helpless and apparently didn’t know how to fight after losing her bending and has to rely on the completely nonsensical discovery that she can still airbend (someone explain to me how the hell that even worked because what the actual hell), and all this after she’s gotten her ass whipped across the board for about a year until someone saves her butt.
I’m not sure if I’m going to articulate this precisely but I feel like as the series went on, Korra’s use of bending became flashy (in the Michael Bay boom pow sense of flashy) but not inventive like it was in the earlier episodes. Like that scene up there? That was clever use of waterbending!
Remember that episode where Tarrlok was trying to woo Korra to his cause and kept sending couriers with presents and messages? She sends the one guy off by earthbending the ground beneath him into a spinning disc and he ends up facing the opposite direction!
I just. I don’t get it. That kind of fighting instinct doesn’t just go away. And I mean, if her character arc is that fear and doubt makes her lose it, I am sorry but that is a shitty character arc for a female protagonist of color, holy shit, I cannot even.
I’m just. I’m so bummed, you guys. So bummed!
I think I am going to pretend that, excepting a few select scenes (airship slice!) and characters (Asami!) this season stopped after three episodes.
“Yip-yip, Fire Lord!”
Iroh winced as the boy tugged at his hair in a merciless attempt to get him to fly.
“Good morning, Meelo. Tea?”
He’d grown tired of reminding the little airbender he wasn’t the Fire Lord.
Head Canon: Iroh is mostly brusque with his men, formal with women, and uneasy around babies. He is wonderful with children, though.
[I’d love to roleplay this with a Meelo or an airbender baby! Had so much fun drawing them.]
